Fandemonium

*Fan-(noun) An enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pasttime, celebrity, etc.

*Pandemonium-(noun) Wild uproar or unrestrained disorder; tumult or chaos.

*Fandemonium-(noun) Uproar of fans sometimes leading to tumult or chaos.

~Disclaimer: fandemonium is a word I made up. not in dictionary.~

Everytime I hear someone say I am so and so's biggest or number one fan I often wonder what makes such a claim true. For the example I will just use Green Day. The person then would back their claim up saying well I have all their cds, my bedroom walls are covered with their posters, all my t-shirts are Green Day shirts, I have gone to so many concerts, and basically what I hear is blah...blah...blah!!! I don't mean to sound rude but I really don't believe in the statement of one being someone's number one fan or their biggest fan. All that person told me was that they seem to be a little obssessed. This is of course just my opinion.

Why does this person, as well as many others, measure being the number one fan as buying all their merch, going to tons and tons of concerts, as being just that, the number one fan? I guess buying the cd's/movies, going to concerts/theatres, and things of that nature aren't enough to earn the coveted title as the number one fan.

My stance on this is if you support the person in every way that you can then you are a true fan. To tell someone who can't afford to buy all sorts of merch, go to numbers of concerts, etc...that they aren't the number one fan can hurt someone's feelings. I say if you as a fan support the person unwaiveringly then you are the number one fan. Every fan is the number one fan.

Noone can judge what makes a fan a fan but your own self. If you believe that you are a big fan, well then you are a big fan. I am big fan of plenty of actors, athletes, and musicians but I will never say that I am their number one fan. There is no difinitive way I or any other person will ever know the latter holds true.

Being a big fan can lead into the pandemonium part of fandemonium. There are limits that one needs to stand by. Otherwise chaos will break out, people will get hurt, and as fan you will fall into the category of psycho obssessed fan. I am sure noone wants to fall into that category.

So for me being as supportive as I can to the people/teams I am a fan of is enough!! How do you feel about this subject? Feedback is appreciated.

  1. Okay first off LOVE the picture of Rob Pattz, lol poor guy!

Now onto your blog, it was awesome. I totally agree with everything you said. Reminds me of when I was a kid and I wrote a letter to George Clooney (which I'm fairly certain I never mailed so it was kind of pointeless, anyway) I rememeber in the letter I told him I was one of his biggest fans because how could I say I was his number one fan, I didn't know every other fan and therefore couldn't measure to find out. Plus how can you measure the amount of love someone has and claim the love you possess is greater. Haha yep I was philisophical even as a child.
I also agree with your point about people may not have enough money to do everything but that doesn't mean they aren't a true fan. Just like I can't go to the Idol Tour (though actually that's more about it just not working out with working) but that doesn't mean I'm not a TRUE fan of Danny Gokey...I think we all know I am.

LOL okay wow that was like the longest response in the history of the world and the most random too...sorry! Anyway just saying I totally agree!

  2. I completely agree! I also have always wondered why some people find that they are someone's "biggest fan". It just never made my sense to me. Support, backing, promoting (such as getting friends to listen to their music, watch the team they play on, etc), and a constant love and devotion (but not in a creepy, obsessed, stalker way) are all ways to prove you are a true fan. No one really has the right to claim they are someone's biggest fan. (Unless of course they are that persons significant other, sibling, child, or close family member...then I think they can feel they have the right to support/love that said person more than others, just for the simple fact that they actually know that person. does that make sense?! I hope so lol)
But anyways...I do agree with you ashley. :] and I have to say...good blog! very interesting. I also love the use of definitions...haha definitions always get me :) love them
(and I have heard the word fandemonium used before) :]
well I hope my comment makes sense...and I hope I have adequate feedback
